Gerar University of Medical Sciences (GUMED) in Imope-Ijebu, Ogun State, has inaugurated Dr. Taiwo Afolabi as Chancellor and Professor ‘Niran Adetoro as Vice-Chancellor.

 The Gerar University of Medical Sciences (GUMED) has inaugurated Dr. Taiwo Afolabi, CON, as its Chancellor and Professor ‘Niran Adetoro as the Vice-Chancellor in a ceremony held this week.

Founded by Dr. Isaac Adegoke, GUMED aims to contribute to the educational development of Nigerians and support young people in achieving their dreams. The institution focuses on Medical and Allied Health Science programs with the vision to become a center of excellence in medical scholarship, addressing the intellectual and developmental needs of society.

Located on a 100.343-hectare parcel of land in Imope-Ijebu, Ijebu-North Local Government Area of Ogun State, GUMED was licensed by the Federal Government of Nigeria through the National Universities Commission (NUC) on June 9, 2023.

Dr. Afolabi, the newly inaugurated Chancellor, is the chairman of SIFAX Group, a conglomerate renowned for its leadership in port management, shipping, bonded terminal operation, aviation, oil and gas, haulage and logistics, financial services, and hospitality.

In his new role, Dr. Afolabi is expected to bring his extensive experience and visionary leadership to GUMED, guiding it towards becoming a premier institution in medical sciences. Professor Adetoro, the Vice-Chancellor, will oversee the academic and administrative functions, ensuring the university meets its goals of excellence and innovation in medical education.

This significant milestone marks a new chapter for GUMED as it strives to impact the medical field and contribute to the nation's educational and healthcare sectors.
