Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Staff Set to Declare Warning Strike Over Unresolved Issues
Staff at Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University are set to declare a warning strike due to unresolved salary increments and pension refund issues.
Staff members of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University (IBBUL) are set to declare a warning strike next week following a national protest, citing several unresolved issues affecting their welfare and the institution's development.
In a statement released to the public and stakeholders, the university's staff emphasized the urgency of their situation, which has arisen from directives issued during recent union congresses. Key issues prompting the potential strike action include:
1. Non-implementation of Salary Increments: Staff are dissatisfied with the failure to implement the recently agreed salary increments of 35% and 25% for universities and other tertiary institutions.

2. Pending Financial Balances: Concerns have been raised regarding the outstanding balances of the Earned Allowance (EA) and Earned Academic Allowance (EAA), as well as the arrears from consequential adjustments.
3. Pension Refund Issues: The staff are frustrated with the Niger State Pension Board and Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) for their refusal to refund contributions to the Consolidated Pension Contribution (CPC) for members who were exempted. Despite multiple interventions from the commissioner, Head of Service, and Joint Action Committee (JAC) executives at IBBUL, no progress has been made.

The spokesperson for the staff expressed a collective sentiment, stating, “I believe I am speaking the mind of other Comrades. We are expecting quick action from the authorities in order to avert such industrial disharmony.”
While the staff acknowledged the efforts made by the Commissioner for Tertiary Education in Niger State, they insisted that more action is necessary at this critical time. The staff's congresses are calling for prompt resolutions to these matters to prevent further disruptions to academic activities at IBBUL.
As the situation unfolds, stakeholders and members of the public are urged to stay informed about developments regarding the potential strike action.
