Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University Vice‑Chancellor Strengthens Global Ties in China
Professor Mohammed Hadi Sulaiman, Vice‑Chancellor of Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida University, Lapai, completed a strategic one‑week visit to Wuhan, China, from 18 – 25 November 2025. The delegation — which included Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences Dr. Abdulmumin Zayd Abubakar — engaged in high‑level academic and diplomatic activities designed to expand IBBU’s international research footprint and advance Nigerian interests in agriculture, veterinary medicine and traditional healthcare.
During the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Action Plan 2025–2027 hosted by the China–Africa Innovation Center, Professor Sulaiman delivered a keynote address titled “Mitigating Challenges of Veterinary Medicine and Agriculture in Nigeria: Opportunities, Threats and Imperative for International Collaboration,” underscoring the need for robust transnational partnerships to boost African agricultural productivity and veterinary systems.
The delegation also took part in the 8th Belt and Road International Conference on Traditional Medicine (Wuhan, 20–23 November 2025). Professor Sulaiman provided opening remarks emphasising global cooperation in harnessing Nigerian traditional medicine for sustainable healthcare, while Dr. Abubakar presented a paper on “Synergizing Tradition and Technology: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in African Traditional Medicine.” The conference attracted scholars from Asia, Africa and Europe.
Key outcomes of the conference included the launch of the Global Association of Traditional Medicine (GATM), with Dr. Abubakar elected Vice‑President (West Africa) and Professor Sulaiman appointed Advisor to the Association — enhancing IBBU’s international visibility.
Professor Sulaiman concluded his visit with a trip to Hubei University (23–24 November), where he finalized and signed a Memorandum of Understanding between IBBU Lapai and Hubei University. The MoU establishes frameworks for joint research, staff and student exchanges, capacity‑building programmes and collaborative academic initiatives.
These engagements reinforce IBBU’s commitment to forging impactful global partnerships across research, education and traditional‑medicine sectors.
