Igbinedion University Okada Commends Edo State Governor for Education and Civil Service Reforms
In a recent visit by the Governing Council of Igbinedion University Okada (IUO) to the Edo State governor, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, high praise was given for the governor’s remarkable reforms in the state’s civil service and education sectors
The University, the first privately owned tertiary institution in Nigeria, expressed pride in aligning with the Edo State government’s substantial investments and reforms in the education sector. During the visit, Abdullah, represented by Deputy Chairman Prof. Abiodun Ilesanmi, sought the state government’s support for the upcoming 25th-anniversary celebrations of the institution. Governor Obaseki, expected to be the chief host, confirmed his support and willingness to partake in the commemorative events.
Governor Obaseki emphasised the crucial link between a robust education system and curbing irregular migration, attributing Nigeria’s challenges to deficiencies in manpower and the education sector. He highlighted his administration’s proactive policies aimed at transforming basic education, serving as a national benchmark.

The governor stressed the importance of ongoing government investment in education, alongside the implementation of effective monitoring systems to track and support the progress of students, ultimately reducing the number of out-of-school children.
The visit saw the presence of notable figures from Igbinedion University Okada, including Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lawrence Ezemonye, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Prof. Raphael Adeghe, Deputy Vice-Chancellor and Chief Medical Director, Prof. Godwin Bazuaye, Prof. Oladapo Afolabi, Prof. Sunday Josiah, Regisrar, Mr. Friday Benji Bakare, Mr. Obinna Wachukwu, Lady Celerina Ojomo, and Engr. Gregory Ogbeifun.
The occasion marked a significant step in acknowledging the collaborative efforts between the university and the Edo State government towards enhancing the educational landscape and fostering a brighter future for the region.
