Igbinedion University, Okada (IUO), has made a significant move towards optimizing the implementation of the National Universities Commission’s (NUC) Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS).

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, the university held a one-day workshop at its library complex conference hall, themed “Review of the Implementation of the CCMAS for Optimum Performance.”

In his opening remarks, IUO Vice Chancellor, Professor Lawrence Ezemonye, Ph.D., FAS, emphasized that the CCMAS provides essential guidelines for educating and training undergraduate students, particularly in administration and management sciences. He highlighted that while the CCMAS sets minimum academic standards, universities are encouraged to innovate and adapt the curriculum to better prepare students for the evolving demands of the job market.

The workshop featured three presentations focused on enhancing the CCMAS implementation process. Dr. Angela Idonije, Director of Academic Planning, led the first session with a paper titled “Merger of the NUC 70% and IUO 30%,” detailing how the university balances national curriculum requirements with its own academic innovations. Professors Raphael Adeghe and Deborah Odejimi jointly presented “Using a Variety of Pedagogies Beyond the Lecture in Delivering the CCMAS,” exploring modern teaching methods. Dr. Raphael Asibor, Director of ICT, concluded with a session on “Effective Use of Technology for Implementing the CCMAS,” focusing on how digital tools can enhance curriculum delivery.

The event was attended by deans, directors, heads of departments, and other key academic staff, and concluded with an interactive question-and-answer session. This initiative underscores IUO’s dedication to improving academic standards and delivering high-quality education to its students.
