Federal Government Upgrades Equipment in Technical Colleges, Empowers Female Students
The Federal Government has begun upgrading equipment and facilities in Federal Science and Technical Colleges (FSTCs) across Nigeria, aiming to enhance technical education and empower students with modern skills. This initiative is part of the government’s efforts to improve the country's education sector and boost workforce readiness.
Speaking on the development, Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, stated that the modernization of technical education aligns with the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He noted that this move will help students remain competitive in the workforce and contribute to national growth.
The initiative also focuses on addressing the low enrollment of female students in technical education. A two-week TVET Camp was organized for female students from 29 FSTCs, providing them with practical skills in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). A total of 255 participants benefited from the camp, which included workshops and exposure to the latest technological innovations.
Dr. Mrs. Muyibat Adenike Olodo, a key advocate for technical and vocational education, emphasized the importance of including girls in TVET programs to inspire them to seize opportunities in various sectors. The Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Education, Hon. Mrs. Idongesit Etiebet, also highlighted the significance of empowering young girls through technology education, stressing that it prepares them for employment and entrepreneurship.
Dr. Asanga N. A. of the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) commended the program, stating that the participants represent Nigeria's future skilled workforce. Awards were presented to outstanding participants, including the best painting groups, most active students, and best-coordinated schools.
