Brilliant Girl Who Scored 293 in JAMB, 60% in Post-UTME Denied Admission Again
Elizabeth Funmilayo Odewusi, an 18-year-old student, has been denied admission to the University of Ilorin's (UNILORIN) Nursing Science program for the second consecutive year, sparking outrage among Nigerians.
Despite scoring 293 in JAMB and 60% in Post-UTME, Elizabeth's application was rejected, echoing last year's outcome when she scored above 280. Her impressive O-level results include Biology (B3), Physics (B3), Chemistry (C4), English (C4), Mathematics (C4), and Agricultural Science (B2).
The repeated rejection has taken a toll on Elizabeth's emotional well-being, with her family expressing concern over her deteriorating mental state. Mr. Nurideen Yusuf, a Court of Appeal staff, described the situation as "confusing and sad," highlighting Elizabeth's exceptional academic performance, including a high score in JUPEB.
Nigerians are calling for transparency and accountability, with many taking to social media to express their outrage. One commenter lamented, "Nigeria is killing young dreams." Another student shared a similar experience, scoring 284 in JAMB with no admission or explanation.
The University of Ilorin has faced criticism for its handling of admissions, with some students questioning the fairness of the process. UNILORIN has not publicly commented on Elizabeth's case, leaving many wondering what might be behind the repeated rejections.
