UNILORIN Students Face Dire Transport Crisis
Students of the University of Ilorin are experiencing a severe transport crisis, with many spending 3-4 hours daily in shuttle queues under intense heat. The situation has been described as "unbearable," "primitive," and "dangerous to health" by parents and students.
Reports indicate that some students have fainted due to the prolonged waits, while others struggle to attend classes and maintain their academic performance. Zainab, a 200-level student, shared her ordeal: "I leave home by 6:30 a.m. and still miss my 8 a.m. class. I fainted here last week. This is not life."
Final-year student Samuel echoed her sentiments: "We get home around 7 p.m. every day. No strength left to read." Students with health conditions, like Azeez, who has an ulcer, are also severely affected, with the long waits taking a toll on their well-being.
The Vice-Chancellor has acknowledged the crisis, assuring students that more buses, including 100 electric vehicles, are on the way. The university recently relocated the shuttle park for security reasons, but students are pleading for urgent action to address the ongoing situation .
The university's administration faces pressure to resolve the crisis and ensure students' safety and well-being.
