FUNAAB Reaffirms Leadership in Agricultural Innovation as DUFARMS Hosts Yam Minisett Technology Field Day
The Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB) reinforced its position as a leader in agricultural research and innovation on Tuesday, December 9, 2025, during the Yam Minisett Technology Field Day hosted by the Directorate of University Farms (DUFARMS).

The event showcased sustainable yam production techniques to researchers, farmers, students, and industry stakeholders.
Represented by Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Development), Prof. Olawale Dairo, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Babatunde Kehinde commended the initiative, highlighting Yam Minisett Technology as a transformative tool for modern yam farming. He emphasized FUNAAB’s commitment to delivering practical solutions to real-world agricultural challenges and encouraged stakeholders to adopt modern techniques to meet rising food demands.
Ag. Director of DUFARMS, Dr. Emmanuel Bankole, noted that although the technology was developed in the 1980s, it remained underutilized nationwide. He described its introduction at FUNAAB as strategic, providing a robust platform for experimentation, learning, and commercial adoption.
Adding momentum to the initiative, Prof. Jacob Olaoye, Director of AMREC, announced a partnership with DUFARMS to produce a step-by-step training manual for farmers on Yam Minisett Technology, while Prof. Olayemi Adeosun, Head of Agricultural Engineering, revealed work on technology to preserve yam seeds for up to two months—further enhancing mechanized yam production.
Representing the Bursar, Mr. Ibukun Fadairo praised DUFARMS’ cost-effective production model, noting its attractiveness for widespread adoption.

The successful rollout of Yam Minisett Technology marks a new era for FUNAAB, cementing its status as a hub for agricultural innovation, research, and community impact in Nigeria and beyond.
