The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Benin Section 116 hosted a remarkable Pre-STSE Competition 2024 at the prestigious SPE Benin Energy House on Irihirih Road in Benin City, Myschoolnews report.

The event, which brought together talented participants from various institutions, witnessed a confluence of academia and industry professionals from the oil and gas sector, including notable individuals from the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) Benin Branch and BALVAE Solutions Ltd.

The event was graced by participants from esteemed institutions such as Igbinedion University Okada, the University of Benin, Afe Babalola University, Edo State Polytechnic Usen, Auchi Polytechnic, the Federal Polytechnic Ado Ekiti, and Benson Idahosa University. Additionally, professionals from the oil and gas sector, including representatives from NEPL, contributed to the event’s success.

Enthusiastically welcoming the participants and esteemed guests, the SPE Section Chairman, Engr. Francis Oko, set the tone with an invigorating opening remark. The event also featured a compelling lecture delivered by Engr. David Ochaba of NEPL, centred around the theme “Securing the Future: A Reassuring Perspective on the Enduring Role of the Oil and Gas Industry Amidst the Energy Transition.”

The competition featured several engaging segments, including the Petroquiz competition, paper contest, and energy challenge, accommodating both physical and virtual participants. Notably, the University of Benin and Igbinedion University Okada emerged as frontrunners, showcasing their prowess and commitment to excellence.

As the event drew to a close, Engr. Randolph Deh Opute, FA of Igbinedion University Okada, delivered the closing remarks, encapsulating the spirit of collaboration and fierce competition that characterised the day’s events. The university was also honoured to have esteemed staff members, including Engr. Dr. Yakubu Yerima, Engr. Dr. Ikenna Onyegbadue, and Engr. Oby P. Obeta, who played pivotal roles as judges and in the event’s planning committee.
