The University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), located in Ondo State, Nigeria, has achieved a significant milestone by becoming the first specialized medical and health sciences institution in West Africa. 

Since its establishment in 2014, UNIMED has consistently demonstrated excellence in educational service delivery. It stands out as one of the few public universities in Nigeria with an uninterrupted academic calendar, providing students with a stable learning environment. Its commitment to exceptional educational quality has earned it recognition both within the state and nationally.

According to the National Universities Commission (NUC) ranking for 2021, UNIMED secured the top position among Ondo State-owned universities. This achievement reflects the university's dedication to academic excellence and research.

UNIMED's performance extends beyond Ondo State. It was ranked as the second-best university overall (including both public and private institutions) in the state. Additionally, among all state-owned universities in Nigeria, UNIMED secured the fourth position.

The NUC rankings places the University as the 19th best university in the entire country. This recognition underscores the institution's impact on healthcare education and research.

To showcase the institution's excllence, the University's Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medical Genomics, CMBMG, is known for innovative initiatives. The Centre launched the maiden edition of CMBMG Publication Series and plan to establish a biobank, which means a collection, depository or warehouse of biological samples and relevant health information.

Another pratical example is on the UNIMED Dentistry Student who won the 3rd best essay prize in the National Essay Writing Competition. Oluwajunse Israel Oluwatobiloba is the dentistry student who came third at an essay writing competition organised by the Dental Section of the Academy of Medicine Specialties of Nigeria.
