Traditional Rulers and Statesmen Laud FUNAAB for Infrastructure Expansion Powered by IGR

The Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Governing Council of the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB), Ogun State, His Royal Majesty, Oba Rasheed Olabomi, Odundun IV, Asoludero, the Aragbiji of Iragbiji Land, has revealed that the University administration has gone a bit further in ameliorating some of the challenges facing the staff of the institution. 

The Pro-Chancellor gave this disclosure at the commissioning programme as part of the activities marking FUNAAB's 33rd Convocation Ceremony.

Oba Rasheed Olabomi, who commissioned the residential quarters for principal officers, noted that the project is a testament of one of his cardinal programmes brought to the University, saying he discovered that less than 1% of the University staff live within the campus.

He stated that the project was financed from the Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the University, adding that the management had laid foundation for the council Guest House and hoping to commission it before the end of the year. 

The Pro-Chancellor revealed that the management is embarking on an iconic building, adding that this would be one of the biggest and the most attractive building on campus, stressing that the University is not relying on government fund alone, but that the little Internally Generated Revenue would be applied for the benefit of the University, saying this would help in boosting the University productivity. 

Similarly, the Akarigbo and Paramount Ruler of Remoland, Oba Babatunde Ajayi, Torungbuwa ii, represented by His Royal Majesty, Oba, Surveyor (Dr.), Adetunji Oso, Owadaniyan II, the Alaye of Ode-Remo, who commissioned the newly-constructed College of Physical Sciences Phase II, commended the University management for putting up such gigantic project, urging the University staff and students to make use of the building for the development of the University and the betterment of mankind.

On his part, commissioning the 240-Capacity Computer Laboratory, the Senator representing Ogun Central Constituency and Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communications Technology and Cybersecurity, Sen. Shuaib Salisu, reiterated that FUNAAB speaks directly as a state known as the cradle of education in Nigeria, saying "there is no way to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the state on the 2nd of February, 2026 than to do something in the area of education."

Sen. Salisu revealed that his constituency has the highest concentration of tertiary institutions in the country, saying that it is the only Senatorial District that host the Federal University of Agriculture and Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences and promised to liaise with the University management in order to do something that would aid the school environment for teaching, learning and development.

The Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, who commissioned the 120-Bed Hostel, thanked the University Council headed by the Pro-Chancellor for always adhering to due process, adding that the council and the University community had been doing the right thing. 

He noted that student accommodation "is a serious component of the quality university education", stating that when conducive, safe, and good, students would concentrate and perform excellently. 

Also, the wife of the former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Dr. (Mrs.), Bola Obasanjo, while commissioning the newly-built Animal Demonstration Laboratory, said that health is wealth and what one eats is what he or she is. She congratulated the Federal Government for what it has done in FUNAAB and urged everyone to join hands together in making sure that the whole world is being taken care of. 

Meanwhile, the former Governor of Ogun State, Aremo Olusegun Osoba, who commissioned the Veterinary Anatomy Laboratory Phase I, thanked the Vice-Chancellor for his foresight and thanked the Federal government for finding such project worthy of funding and for given the University the necessary support.
