JAMB Reaffirms Commitment to Community Security Through Youth-Focused Initiative
JAMB has reinforced its commitment to community security in Bwari through the "Catch Them Young Security Initiative," aimed at educating secondary school students on safety awareness.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has once again demonstrated its dedication to ensuring safety within its host community of Bwari and the surrounding areas. This commitment was highlighted during the 2024 Public Enlightenment Programme on Security, themed “Catch Them Young Security Initiative,” held at the JAMB Auditorium on Saturday.
Organized by the Bwari Division of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the event aimed at educating secondary school students on security awareness and the importance of maintaining community safety. The initiative seeks to instill a culture of security consciousness among young Nigerians, encouraging them to actively participate in safeguarding their communities.
Speaking on behalf of JAMB's Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, the Board’s PCRC representative, Mr. Clement Ojo, expressed optimism about the program's potential to make a lasting impact on the youth. “This initiative promises to leave a profound and lasting impact on the younger generation of Nigerians,” Ojo stated. He further emphasized JAMB’s commitment to collaborating with relevant security agencies, especially the Police, to ensure that Bwari remains a safe and secure environment for everyone.
Divisional Chairman of the PCRC, DCN John Owen, also addressed participants during the opening remarks, underscoring the significant role students play in shaping the future of society. He encouraged the youth to acquire skills and values that would help them make informed decisions and avoid criminal activities.
The event featured presentations from various speakers, including CSP Baba Yola, the Bwari Divisional Police Officer, represented by DSP Alfred Abah, who warned students against engaging in harmful behaviors such as internet fraud, cultism, and robbery. He urged them to stay on the right path to secure a better future.
Dr. Olumuji Peter, Secretary of the Command and Control Centre, Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), provided insights into the psychological factors contributing to juvenile delinquency, recommending ways to combat such issues. He highlighted the importance of extracurricular activities, positive role models, and community involvement in guiding young people toward productive futures.
Adding to the discussions, Mr. Kenneth Chima, the PCRC Bwari Division Youth Coordinator, spoke on the impact of social media on youth behavior. He noted both the advantages of social media as well as the risks, such as cyberbullying and exposure to criminal behavior, that can negatively influence young minds.
The "Catch Them Young Security Initiative" serves as a vital step in fostering a proactive security culture among Nigerian youths, reinforcing JAMB's role in supporting community safety and development.
