18-Year-Old Nigerian Athlete Makes History as Africa’s First Paralympic Medalist in Badminton

Mariam Eniola Bolaji, an 18-year-old Nigerian athlete, made history as the first African to win a Paralympic medal in badminton, earning bronze in the Women’s Para-Badminton SL3 event at the Paris 2024 Paralympics. 

 

She is also the first African to medal in badminton at the Olympics or Paralympics.

Mariam dedicated her victory to her late coach, Bello Rafiu Oyebanji, whose passing in 2021 motivated her to excel.
