Kaduna governor declares three-day public holiday for voter registration

The Kaduna State Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai, has declared a three-day public holiday in the state to enable residents to complete their voter registration exercise before the July 31 deadline.

This was disclosed in a statement issued by the governor’s Special Adviser on Media and Communications, Muyiwa Adekeye, on Tuesday, July 26, 2022.

The statement urged all eligible voters to seize the period to register so as to be in the position to exercise their voting rights.

“The state government has also declared July 27 to 29, 2022 as public holidays to enable more citizens to complete their voter registration.”

The statement from the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House urged all eligible residents of the state to seize this window to register to vote,  and to therefore be in a position to exercise their right to vote.

The statement disclosed that the government requested all employers to actively support their staff to register before the Independent National Electoral Commission closes voter registration on July 31, 2022,” the statement said.

Meanwhile, the Lagos state Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had similarly declared a four work free days for workers in the State for them to get their Permanent Voter Cards.

The state Head of Service, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola, disclosed this in a statement on Monday, adding that the officers are to return to work with their PVCs after the exercise.

According to Muri-Okunola, workers on Grade Levels 01, 03, 07 and 15 are exempted from work on Tuesday (today); Wednesday is for those on GL 02, 04, 08 and 13; Thursday is for GL 05, 09, 12 and 17; while Friday is for GL 06, 10, 14 and 16.
