The Vice Chancellor of Saadatu Rimi University of Education, Kano, Professor Isa Yahaya Bunkure, has announced that the state government has approved the sum of N4 billion for the infrastructural development of the institution to enhance its status as a fully-fledged university.

He made this announcement while expressing gratitude for the substantial financial and moral backing received from Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s administration since the university’s inception.

Prof. Bunkure disclosed this during an interview on Friday with journalists in Kano.

“We are now a full-fledged university of education with our licence from the National Universities Commission in Abuja, with all the salient requirements satisfied,” he said.

He also highlighted the importance of recruiting qualified manpower, both academic and non-academic, as a crucial aspect of the university’s upgrade.

“We currently employ a total of 1,322 staff, comprising 876 academic staff, 371 non-academic staff, and 75 teaching staff in our staff school,” he added.

Prof. Bunkure commended Governor Yusuf’s commitment to improving education standards across all levels, allocating over N27 billion to education in the 2024 budget.

He further stated, “Governor Yusuf approved the sum of over four billion Naira for infrastructural development in Saadatu Rimi University of Education, which includes the construction of a modern and befitting Senate chamber.”

“We are highly pleased with this concern for the development of the educational sector exhibited by His Excellency,” he continued.

Furthermore, he revealed that the university has transitioned fully from a college of education to a recognized university of education, accredited by the National Universities Commission and the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board.

Prof. Bunkure also mentioned that, due to meeting all university requirements, the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board has granted the university an admission quota of two thousand and ninety candidates for the 2023–2024 academic session.

He emphasised the university’s commitment to quality education by noting that they have more academic staff holding higher degrees than those with bachelor’s degrees, demonstrating their readiness for delivering high-quality education.
