Kano Lecturers Demand Removal of ABU VC as Governing Council Chair
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) at Yusuf Maitama Sule Federal University of Education Kano (YUMSFUEK) has called for the immediate removal of Professor Ahmad Adamu, Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU) Zaria, from his position as Chairman of YUMSFUEK's Governing Council.
The union alleges that Professor Adamu's dual role as ABU VC and YUMSFUEK Governing Council Chairman constitutes a conflict of interest, undermining the institution's transition and violating principles of transparency and due process. ASUU accuses him of bias, incompetence, and fostering division within the university, leading to a toxic administrative environment.
ASUU also objects to the ongoing process of appointing a new Vice Chancellor, claiming that the Governing Council has excluded key statutory members, including representatives of the Senate, Congregation, and Convocation, thereby rendering the process null and void. The union demands a reconstituted council that includes all statutory members.
ASUU warns that failure to address these demands could plunge the university into a deeper crisis, urging the Federal Ministry of Education, National Universities Commission (NUC), and other relevant bodies to intervene urgently .
