KASU Committee on Bioinformatics Initiative Kickstarts with an Inaugural Seminar

The inaugural seminar of KASU's Committee on Bioinformatics Initiative (CBi) featured its first seminar presentation titled "Application of Molecular Analysis and Bioinformatics Through a Public Health Physician's Experience."

Dr. Istifanus A. Joshua from KASU's Department of Community Medicine KASU, Barau Dikko Teaching Hospital, Kaduna delivered the seminar at the Department of Biochemistry on Thursday, 4th April 2024.

The seminar delved into the significance of molecular analysis and bioinformatics, offering a richly informative and interactive session. Dr. Joshua stressed the importance of collaborative research and public health education in promoting responsible antimicrobial use, cautioning against self-medication and its contribution to antimicrobial resistance.

Dr. Zainab Qasim Mohammed, the Head of the Biochemistry Department, recommended that the seminar be made accessible to all university members due to its valuable insights.

Dr Stephan A. James, Director of the Institute of Science, technology and Management Studies, and Chairman of the Committee of the Bioinformatics Initiative, added that this collaboration between the library and biochemistry is to foster research in bioinformatics and to disseminate information on the development and progress in bioinformatics.

It is worthy to note that the CBi is an initiative of the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa when he was the University Librarian and the Department of Biochemistry. It aims to host speakers addressing cutting-edge bioinformatics challenges and solutions to societal issues. These seminars enrich the bioinformatics knowledge of academicians, researchers, and students while fostering collaboration among KASU scientists.

The presentation concluded with an engaging question-and-answer session, enhancing understanding and dialogue among participants.
