David Akanmu, a civil engineering graduate from the University of Lagos, UNILAG, has been awarded the prestigious 2024 Knight-Hennessy scholarship.

This scholarship will allow him to pursue a Ph.D. in Energy Science and Engineering at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

UNILAG proudly reports that Akanmu achieved a perfect Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 5.0 in civil engineering during his undergraduate studies. He joins an elite group of UNILAG graduates who have received the Knight-Hennessy Award.

The Knight-Hennessy Scholars Program, established at Stanford University, aims to create a diverse and interdisciplinary community of graduate students. These scholars are prepared to tackle global challenges across various fields.

In an announcement made on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, the Knight-Hennessy Scholars revealed that UNILAG is the sole African university represented among the sixty (60) institutions from which the 2024 cohort of 90 new scholars was selected. David Akanmu is one of only five (5) Africans chosen for this cohort, and he is the sole representative from an African-based tertiary institution. This 2024 cohort is the seventh (7th) and largest cohort since the inception of the award.

For those interested in applying, the application process for the 2025 cohort will open on June 1, 2024, and close on October 9, 2024.
