KASU Holds Strategic Retreat to Chart a New Course for Continuing Education

The Directorate of Academic Planning at Kaduna State University (KASU) convened a one-day strategic retreat on Thursday, 17th July 2025, aimed at repositioning the College of Continuing Education (CCE) for future excellence.

The retreat, which took place at the Quarter House Hotel conference hall in Kaduna, brought together top university officials and stakeholders to align the vision of the newly appointed management of the CCE with the broader strategic goals of the university.

In his opening remarks, Director of Academic Planning, Prof. Auwal F. Abdussalam, emphasized the importance of the retreat in orienting the new leadership towards a cohesive and forward-thinking vision. He highlighted the need for the CCE to operate in line with the university's overall strategic direction.

Vice Chancellor, Prof. Abdullahi I. Musa, delivered the welcome address, focusing on enhancing the college's capacity for effective service delivery. He acknowledged the challenges facing the CCE and said management had taken steps to streamline its operations. Prof. Musa urged all participants to actively engage in the retreat, stressing that advancing the College to global standards requires a collective effort from all staff and stakeholders.

Deputy Vice Chancellor for Strategy, Innovation, and Service Delivery, Prof. Helen Afang Andow, reinforced the university’s commitment to academic excellence. She called on staff to uphold strict standards of quality assurance and to prioritize value-driven research, positioning the College as a leader in both teaching and innovation.

Former Vice Chancellor, Prof. Muhammad Tanko, also attended the retreat and underscored the role of continuing education in offering practical, lifelong learning opportunities. He praised the current leadership’s efforts to improve service delivery and urged the College to embrace transparency and sound governance practices. He further noted the College’s potential to become a significant revenue generator for the university if strategically managed.

The retreat concluded with closing remarks from the University Registrar, Barr. Samira Balarabe reiterated that the appointment of the new CCE management was based on merit. She highlighted the importance of campus security and encouraged the management to take proactive measures to safeguard lives and property. She also stressed the need for emotional intelligence in managing staff-student relations and thanked participants for their commitment and contributions.

The retreat marks a significant step in KASU’s efforts to modernize and strengthen continuing education as part of its broader institutional goals.
