Kogi Government to Sanction Sabotaging Principals and Head Teachers of Free Education Policy

The Kogi State Government has announced plans to enforce strict penalties against principals and head teachers undermining its free education policy. Commissioner for Education, Wemi Jones, made this declaration during a meeting with the National Parent-Teachers’ Association of Nigeria (NAPTAN), Kogi chapter, on Tuesday in Lokoja.

Jones emphasized that the government’s commitment to providing free education in public primary and secondary schools must not be exploited by educators. He stated, “Our provision of free education to pupils and students must not be taken for granted or sabotaged by any teacher,” warning that those found sabotaging the initiative would face severe consequences.

The commissioner urged NAPTAN to collaborate with educators to ensure effective implementation of government policies aimed at benefiting students. He highlighted the state’s investment in education as a legacy that the administration of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo aims to leave for its citizens.

Jones also noted that the “Free Examination Registration Fees for Kogi State Students and Pupils in Public Primary and Secondary Schools Law” has made education entirely free, covering all internal and external examinations for students, including Common Entrance and WAEC. He assured that the government intends to extend similar benefits to private schools once accurate data is available.

In response, NAPTAN Chairman John Abenege commended the commissioner for his dedication to advancing education in Kogi State. He pledged the association’s support for the successful implementation of the government’s educational initiatives, expressing gratitude to Governor Ahmed Ododo for prioritizing education in the state.
