The Kogi State Government has terminated several lecturers at Kogi State Polytechnic. This action was announced by Isah Emmanuel Ojodunwene, the Senior Special Assistant to Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo on Students Affairs, during a one-day meeting held in Lokoja. The meeting focused on the adoption of an anti-sexual harassment policy for tertiary institutions in Kogi State. 

Ojodunwene revealed that the exact number of dismissed lecturers was not disclosed, but emphasized the administration's firm stance against sexual harassment. He stressed that the current administration, under Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo, has a strict zero-tolerance policy for such misconduct.

Addressing the meeting, Ojodunwene referenced a recent tragic incident involving a 19-year-old student at Federal University Lokoja, who was murdered by a 20-year-old in a ritualistic act. He highlighted that this case underscored the vulnerability of students to harassment and the critical need for action.

“The time to address sexual harassment is now,” Ojodunwene asserted. “We have seen numerous reports of harassment across institutions in Kogi State, and we are committed to eradicating this issue.”

He also revealed that some lecturers involved in harassment cases are currently in prison, reinforcing the government's commitment to combating sexual misconduct. Ojodunwene encouraged heads of educational institutions in Kogi State to adopt stringent measures against harassment and urged students to speak up if they experience such issues.

“Students should feel empowered to report harassment without fear of stigmatization,” Ojodunwene said. “By speaking up, we can address and resolve these issues promptly.”

Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo’s administration remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating social vices and ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment for all students in the state.
