Kogi State Polytechnic Inaugurates New SUG and NAKOSS Executives
Kogi State Polytechnic inaugurated its new SUG and NAKOSS executives on November 4, 2024, with a call for transparency, accountability, and unity from the Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman.
Kogi State Polytechnic has officially inaugurated the new Student Union Government (SUG) and the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) executives for the 2024/2025 academic session. The inauguration ceremony took place on Monday, November 4, 2024, at the 200 Twin Lecture Theatre on the Polytechnic's main campus.
During the ceremony, the Rector, Professor Salisu Ogbo Usman, congratulated the newly elected leaders and urged them to uphold the values of their campaigns by prioritizing genuine student unionism that addresses the welfare of all students. He emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in their leadership roles, reminding the executives to lead by example and strive to be remembered positively.
Professor Usman further advised against divisive politics, asserting that good governance transcends religious and tribal affiliations. He praised the electoral committee for conducting free and fair elections and commended candidates who showed sportsmanship by conceding defeat. The Rector encouraged the winners to embrace inclusivity by involving all students, including those who did not win, in their activities and decisions.
He cautioned the newly inaugurated executives against being influenced by mischief-makers and assured them that his administration would continue to prioritize the welfare and well-being of the student body.
The Chairman of the Electoral Committee, Dr. Engr. Adamu Mohammed Alaji, commended the students for their orderliness during the electoral process and expressed gratitude to the Polytechnic management and his committee members for their support.
In their remarks, the Dean of Students Services, Dr. John Adavuruku Aliyu; Chief Security Officer, Mr. Emmanuel Attah Onuh; and Director of Legal Services, Barrister Williams, also echoed the need for unity and effective leadership in serving the student community.
