Kogi State University Defends Decision to Set Minimum JAMB Score at 170

The management of Kogi State University (KSU) has confirmed that it will not accept students with Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) scores lower than 170. This decision, announced by Vice Chancellor Prof. Kehinde Eniola, stands in contrast to JAMB's minimum benchmark of 140.

During a recent event on September 27, Prof. Eniola addressed concerns regarding the university's admission criteria. He emphasized that lowering the cut-off mark below 170 would compromise the institution's standards and academic integrity. “Our aim is not to generate revenue but to produce quality education we can be proud of,” he stated.

Prof. Eniola acknowledged that although admitting students with lower scores could increase enrollment, it would not align with the university's goal of maintaining high educational standards. He highlighted that there are institutions that have even higher cut-off marks, stating, “We can only achieve that if we set a high standard from the onset.”
