KWASU Appoints Director Career Services Centre

Dr. Aliru Olajide Mustapha of the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry has been appointed Director, Career Services Centre of Kwara State University.

The letter conveying the Acting Vice-Chancellor's approval of the appointment dated March 4, 2024, and signed by the Registrar, Dr. Kikelomo W. Sallee stated that the appointment of Dr. Aliru Olajide Mustapha was based on his exemplary leadership qualities and wealth of experience.

Dr. Mustapha’s appointment is expected to propel the University’s Career Services to attain the objective of assisting the transition of tertiary education students’ from school to the workplace.

To prepare him for the role, Dr. Mustapha attended a 5-Day Capacity Building Workshop in October 2023 organized by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund in Abuja on how to tackle the challenge of employability of graduates of Nigeria's Universities.

The aim of the training was to equip career unit staff with the essential skills and knowledge required to establish effective career services units in their respective universities and provide students with career guidance, helping them explore career options, develop workplace skills, and become marketable job candidates.

The unit is also to address students' needs at different stages of their university life, emphasizing the importance of career-related activities while helping them create impactful and inspirational resumes.

He also attended a 1-day capacity-building workshop on establishing functional career services units in universities organized by the Committee of Vice Chancellors of Nigerian Universities (CVCNU) in Abuja in February 2024.

He was a participant at the online capacity workshop on social media, fake news, misinformation, and information disorder in the era of insecurity, organized by the Kwara State University, Library, Malete, held in May of 2022.

Dr. Mustapha, an Associate Professor at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry, Faculty of Pure and Applied Sciences, specializes in Analytical Chemistry in the core areas of Environmental and Industrial Chemistry and teaches and supervises students’ research at all levels.

He earned a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) Chemistry in 1987 and an M.Sc. Chemistry in 1993 from the University of Ilorin before obtaining a Masters of Research (MRes) in Chemistry in 2008 from the University of Nottingham and his Ph.D. in Chemistry in 2013 from the Nottingham Trent University, United Kingdom.
