The formal presentation ceremony, held on Thursday, April 25, 2024, at the ULWS Foyer, marked a significant milestone in the University's efforts to mitigate the impact of the 2023 obligatory fees increment on its student body.
The Chairperson of UNILAG Women Society (ULWS) and former UNILAG Registrar, Dr. (Mrs) Folasade Ipaye, commended Honourable Shabi's generosity, noting that his contribution aligns with the ULWS Youth Connect Initiative's mission to support students facing financial challenges. Dr. Ipaye expressed gratitude for the lawmaker's swift action, as the scholarships were delivered just two weeks after his initial promise.

During the ceremony, Mr. Chukwudi Emmanuel Aloh, a recent graduate of the Department of Arts Education (English Education), and Miss Chioma Joan Okeke, a 400-level student of the Department of Social Science Education (Early Childhood Education), received cheques of Five Hundred Thousand Naira (N500,000.00) each. Both students, despite facing physical challenges, have demonstrated outstanding academic performance, earning recognition from Honourable Shabi.
Honourable Rasheed Shabi, who presides over the LSHA Committee on Environment, had visited UNILAG on Thursday, February 15, 2024, at the invitation of the Youth Connect Committee of the University of Lagos Women Society (ULWS). During his visit, he identified Mr. Chukwudi Aloh and Miss Chioma Okeke as deserving candidates for his scholarship initiative, which aims to support students with exceptional academic achievements.
In addition to fulfilling his promise to Mr. Aloh and Miss Okeke, Honourable Shabi announced that students with a Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 4.50 and above would also benefit from his education support scholarships, further demonstrating his commitment to promoting academic excellence within the University community.
