Lagos State Graduates 500 Beneficiaries from Skill Acquisition Programme

The Lagos State Government recently graduated over 500 beneficiaries from its Liveskills Economic Empowerment Programme, also known as the Short Term Skill Acquisition Training. The event celebrated participants from Sanni Agbesinga Community in Alimosho and Parafa Alagemo Community in Ikorodu North.

The Lagos State Government has successfully graduated over 500 participants from its Liveskills Economic Empowerment Programme, also known as the Short Term Skill Acquisition Training. The graduation ceremony, held on September 24, 2024, celebrated the achievements of beneficiaries from Sanni Agbesinga Community in Alimosho and Parafa Alagemo Community in Ikorodu North.

Since the inception of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s administration, the programme has trained over 15,000 individuals in various skills, including makeup artistry, catering, soap-making, and event planning. Each graduate received essential startup packs to aid their entrepreneurial pursuits.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation, Mrs. Bolaji Dada, highlighted the programme's comprehensive approach, which encompasses training in entrepreneurial skills, health awareness, and environmental safety. Represented by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Oluyemi Kalesanwo, she remarked, “This event signifies not just the conclusion of a training programme but the dawn of new opportunities for all participants.”

Mrs. Dada encouraged the graduates to apply their new skills to transform their economic circumstances and empower their communities. She also reaffirmed the government’s commitment to ongoing support and additional training initiatives targeting women and youth across Lagos State.

Director of the Women’s Department in WAPA, Olufunke Shyllon, expressed gratitude to Governor Sanwo-Olu for his dedication to eradicating poverty and promoting financial independence among women. She assured attendees that the Ministry’s Monitoring and Evaluation Team would oversee the effective utilization of the empowerment packs.

Community leaders, including Adeniran Ogunbawo, Chairman of the Community Development Association in Ikorodu North, and Olalekan Erinle, Secretary of the Community Development Association in Sanni Agbesinga, praised the programme’s impact. They described it as a transformative initiative capable of enhancing local communities, stimulating economic growth, and combating poverty at the grassroots level.
