The Lagos State Government has announced the implementation of robust Infection Prevention and Control (IPC) measures across schools. This initiative aims to curb the spread of communicable diseases within educational institutions, in order to safeguard the health of students and staff.

Mr. Jamiu Alli-Balogun, Lagos State Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, emphasized the importance of these measures in a statement released on Tuesday. He emphasized that the primary goal of IPC in schools is to minimize the risk of infectious disease outbreaks, ensuring a safe and conducive learning environment.

"As primary and secondary schools in Lagos resume on wednesday from the midterm and Sallah break, the state government urges parents, guardians, and school authorities to adhere strictly to precautionary measures," Mr. Alli-Balogun stated.

Key components of the IPC strategy include rigorous hand hygiene practices such as handwashing with soap and water before meals and after using the restroom. Additionally, cleaning and disinfection protocols will be intensified, along with health screening and effective communication channels established within school communities.

In preparation for any health emergencies, schools have been instructed to promptly report suspected cases of diseases like cholera through designated hotlines.
