Department Of English, Lagos State University celebrates Three outstanding students as best graduating of 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 academic session.
Acknowledging outstanding achievements of academic excellence, members of staff and students, Department of English, Faculty of Arts, Lagos State University, celebrated their best graduating students on Wednesday, 12th July 2023, at the Theatre Arts Auditorium, Main Campus, Ojo, Lagos.
Three outstanding students who graduated in the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022 sessions, Miss. Zainab Aderounmu, Miss. Shukrah Adeyemi and Miss. Erhuvwu Akpomerha were celebrated amongst their peers and awarded best graduating students of the department with CGPA of 4.54, 4.53 and 4.47 respectively.
The Vice Chancellor, Prof Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Law, Prof. Kareem A. Olatoye congratulated the students for their exceptional and excellent efforts, and encouraged other students to follow the footsteps of the awardees and strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.
In her words....“Ensure to work hard towards the goal of excellence, you will surely be celebrated", the Vice Chancellor affirmed.
The Dean, Faculty of Arts, Prof. T. M. Salisu represented by the Head, Department of English, Prof. Pius E. Akhimien expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the dedication and commitment shown by the awardees.
He charged other students to put in their best effort and strive for success, using the outstanding awardees as an example of what they could achieve. He also encouraged them to work hard, reminding them that if they were dedicated and put in the effort, they could also be celebrated for their accomplishments.
Senior members of academic staff in the department and departmental level advisers which include Prof. Omolola Oladele, Prof. Gabriel Osoba, Prof. A. A. Atolagbe, Prof. S. A. Ogunpitan, Prof. Adeleke Fakoya, Dr. H. J. Hunjo and Dr. O. O. Oni-Buraimo also shared their voices and recommendations. These mentors offered tips on successful studentship such as punctuality in classes, total dedication to studies from the foundational level and seeing lecturers as friends instead of foes.
The three awardees were elated and shared their advice with their successors. They encouraged them to strive for excellence, have an open mind that allows for amazing achievements without preconceived notions, find their own path and stay committed to it.
The programme came to an end with closing remarks by Prof. Oladele Omotola.
