LASU Honours 89 Retirees at 2024/2025 Send-Off Ceremony, Celebrates Service and Enduring Legacy
The Lagos State University (LASU), through its Pension Board of Trustees, on Tuesday, December 16, 2025, held a colourful and emotionally charged 2024/2025 Send-Off Ceremony (Second Edition) to honour retired members of staff who served the institution with distinction.

The ceremony, held at the Femi Gbajabiamila Hall, LASU Main Campus, Ojo, brought together University Management, staff, retirees, family members and friends in a celebration of dedication, institutional loyalty and years of selfless service. A total of eighty-nine (89) retired academic and non-academic staff members were honoured at the event.
Speaking in a welcome address, the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Ibiyemi Ibilola Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, paid glowing tribute to the retirees, describing them as the backbone of the University’s growth and stability over the years. She stressed that LASU’s true strength lies not only in infrastructure but in the character, resilience and professionalism of those who have served it with excellence.
Represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Oluwatoyin Enikuomehin, the Vice-Chancellor reassured the retirees that their legacies would remain deeply embedded in the University’s history and continue to inspire future generations of staff and students.

Earlier, the Chairman of the Pension Board of Trustees and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), Professor Enikuomehin, welcomed the honourees and guests, describing the retirees as steadfast pillars whose sacrifices and commitment helped shape LASU into a respected centre of learning. He commended the Vice-Chancellor for institutionalising the send-off ceremony as a formal platform for recognising service, loyalty and institutional memory.
A major highlight of the ceremony was the presentation of awards and gifts to the 89 retirees in appreciation of their meritorious service. In a special recognition, an award was also presented to the Vice-Chancellor in acknowledgement of her visionary leadership and consistent commitment to staff welfare.
The event featured emotional moments as retirees shared reflections on their years of service. Notable among them were Distinguished Professor Babajide Elemo, Dr (Mrs) Bosede Amoo, former Director of the University Multimedia Centre, and Mr Buhari Jimoh Lamidi, who recounted experiences spanning decades of dedication, challenges and professional fulfilment within the University.
Delivering a goodwill message, the Chairman of NASU/LASU, Comrade Obafemi Sanni, praised the retirees for their loyalty and invaluable contributions, urging serving staff to emulate their work ethic and commitment to excellence. The ceremony was also attended by the immediate past Chief Imam of the Lagos State University Muslim Community, Distinguished Professor Amidu Sanni.

The celebratory atmosphere was further enlivened by live band performances, dining and social interaction, reinforcing the sense of unity and camaraderie that defined the occasion.
The vote of thanks was delivered by the Deputy Registrar, Non-Academic Division, Mr Samuel Otesanya, who expressed appreciation to the University Management, Pension Board of Trustees, organisers and guests for ensuring the success of the ceremony.
The second edition of the Send-Off Ceremony once again underscored Lagos State University’s commitment to honouring service, preserving institutional heritage and celebrating the men and women whose dedication has shaped the University’s journey.
