The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Muhammed Laminu Mele, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON) in recognition of his leadership and service to humanity.

The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, Professor Muhammed Laminu Mele, has been honoured with an Award of Excellence by the Coalition of Civil Society Organisations in Nigeria (COCSON) in recognition of his leadership and service to humanity.

Professor Mele was represented at the event by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services), Professor Mohammed Ahmed Waziri, who expressed appreciation to COCSON for its commitment to promoting transparency, accountability, and good governance. He thanked the organisation for considering the Vice-Chancellor deserving of the honour.

Speaking during the presentation, the leader of the COCSON delegation, Comrade Olarinwaju Yisa Olaniyin, said the organisation is dedicated to encouraging good governance and ensuring that institutions and leaders uphold integrity, justice, and fairness.

He explained that the award was presented in recognition of Professor Mele’s outstanding track record at the University of Maiduguri, particularly his contributions to infrastructural development, human capacity development, and the sustenance of a peaceful and conducive academic environment. He commended the Vice-Chancellor’s diligence, administrative competence, and commitment to institutional growth.

The Award of Excellence plaque was presented at the Muhammadu Buhari Senate Building, Office of the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic Services), University of Maiduguri, on Wednesday, 17 December 2025.
