NSUK Rejects Sensational Media Report, Affirms Institutional Integrity Amid Alumnus Theft Allegation
The Management of Nasarawa State University, Keffi (NSUK), has strongly condemned a recent media report by Nasarawa Mirror that unfairly linked the institution’s name to an alleged motorcycle theft involving a former student.
While NSUK does not condone criminality in any form and fully supports the rule of law, due process, and the work of security agencies in investigating alleged crimes, we find it necessary to condemn the needless association of the University's name with the alleged actions of an individual whose conduct, if established by a court of competent jurisdiction, remains entirely personal.
The decision to repeatedly emphasize the suspect's educational background rather than the alleged offence is not only unprofessional but also capable of creating a misleading narrative that unfairly maligns the image of a reputable institution and its thousands of law-abiding graduates.

Nasarawa State University, Keffi has, since its establishment, produced distinguished alumni who have excelled in public service, academia, the judiciary, business, security services, entrepreneurship, and numerous other sectors both within and outside Nigeria. These men and women continue to uphold the values of integrity, discipline, excellence, and service that the University represents.
It is therefore intellectually dishonest and professionally irresponsible to attempt to define an institution of over fifty thousand graduates by the alleged misconduct of one individual. If every institution were judged by the actions of isolated persons who once passed through its gates, no university, organisation, or community would be spared unjust condemnation.
We wish to remind Nasarawa Mirror and other media organisations that responsible journalism demands accuracy, balance, fairness, and context. The role of the media is to inform, not to sensationalise. Headlines designed to attract attention at the expense of institutional reputations undermine public trust and violate the fundamental principles of ethical reporting.
NSUK neither teaches, encourages, nor endorses criminal conduct. Any individual who chooses to violate the law does so in a personal capacity and must bear full responsibility for his or her actions. Such conduct cannot and should not be attributed to the University, its management, staff, students, or alumni community.
Accordingly, we call on Nasarawa Mirror to retract the misleading framing of its report and publish a balanced follow-up that reflects the reality that the alleged actions of a former student have no bearing on the values, standards, and reputation of Nasarawa State University, Keffi.
The University's reputation has been built over decades through academic excellence, research, innovation, community service, and the outstanding contributions of its graduates to national development. That reputation cannot be diminished by the alleged misconduct of a single individual.
NSUK remains a citadel of learning, character formation, and moral rectitude. We stand firmly by our values, our achievements, and the integrity of our alumni worldwide.
