LASU Senate Bans Signing-Out Funfair by Final-Year Students

The Lagos State University Senate, at its 306th Statutory Meeting held on Thursday, 25th January 2024, considered a paper Ref: LASU/SEN/ST.306/063 on the report concerning the signing-out funfair by final-year students.

The announcement was made by the University’s Senate.

During the meeting, Senate noted the following:

  • The Students' Affairs Division observed a flagrant disregard for rules and regulations guiding students’ conduct in the University during signing-out funfairs.
  • Final-year students invited friends who were not students to the campus to celebrate with them.
  • Students engaged in drinking alcoholic beverages, smoking weed and cigarettes, using shisha, and dressing indecently.
  • Disc jockeys and musical equipment were brought onto the school premises.
  • While the funfairs were ongoing, some students were still writing examinations, and members of the National Universities Commission (NUC) Accreditation Teams were on campus.
  • The crowd of students and their invitees, alongside indiscriminate parking, led to traffic congestion on campus.
  • The Students' Affairs Division, Security Unit, and some Deans struggled to control the crowd.
  • The activities left the University environment dirty and untidy.
