LASU Vice-Chancellor, Management Pay Condolence Visit to Badagry Kingdom

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Monday, 26 January 2026, led members of the University Management on a condolence visit to the Badagry Kingdom following the demise of its revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, De Whenu Aholu Menu Toyi I, OFR, JP, the Akran of Badagry Kingdom.

The Vice-Chancellor of Lagos State University (LASU), Professor Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, on Monday, 26 January 2026, led members of the University Management on a condolence visit to the Badagry Kingdom following the demise of its revered monarch, His Royal Majesty, De Whenu Aholu Menu Toyi I, OFR, JP, the Akran of Badagry Kingdom.

The Vice-Chancellor and her delegation were received by the royal family and chieftaincy members of the kingdom. They were accompanied on the visit by the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Honourable Babatunde Hunpe.

While addressing the royal family and traditional council, Professor Olatunji-Bello conveyed the University’s heartfelt condolences to the people of Badagry Kingdom, the royal household, and the nation at large over the loss of the highly respected traditional ruler.

She described the late monarch as a symbol of wisdom, peace, and cultural preservation, whose reign was distinguished by an unwavering commitment to education, unity, and community development. According to her, the Akran of Badagry exemplified a rare blend of traditional authority and progressive leadership, leaving behind a legacy that positively shaped generations.

The Vice-Chancellor noted that Lagos State University mourns not only a revered monarch but also a father figure and nation builder whose counsel and leadership contributed meaningfully to societal growth. She prayed for the peaceful repose of his soul and for strength and comfort for the royal family and the entire Badagry Kingdom.

The visit underscored the University’s long-standing relationship with Badagry Kingdom and its respect for traditional institutions as vital partners in community and educational development.
