LAUTECH Appeals for Calm Over Implementation of Conmess and Ongoing Student Protest

The Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has appealed for calm following the protest by medical students over issues related to the implementation of the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure (CONMESS).

According to the University’s Registrar and Secretary to Council, Mrs. Olayinka O. Balogun, the Management had recently engaged with the leadership of the Nigerian Association of Medical and Dental Academics (NAMDA), LAUTECH Branch, where a formal commitment was made to begin implementing CONMESS with the November 2025 salary cycle. Full implementation, she noted, is expected to take effect by July 2026, while the payment of arrears would be considered thereafter.

Mrs. Balogun explained that the decision was reached in good faith, after due consideration of the institution’s financial sustainability and long-term stability, reflecting Management’s genuine commitment to the welfare of its Medical and Dental academic staff without compromising the broader interests of the University.

However, the Registrar confirmed that NAMDA declined the offer, a development that has led to a protest by medical students concerned about the potential impact on their academic progress and clinical training.

She urged all stakeholders—including staff, students, parents, and the general public—to remain calm and exercise restraint while the University continues to seek a peaceful resolution.

LAUTECH Management reaffirmed its commitment to excellence, equity, and responsible governance, calling on NAMDA to reconsider its position in the collective interest of the students and the future of medical education at the institution.
