MAAUN Students Celebrate 2024 World Physiotherapy Day with Debate and Quiz Competitions

Students from the Department of Physiotherapy at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) marked the 2024 World Physiotherapy Day on Monday with grand celebrations featuring debate and quiz competitions. The event, organized by the students, also featured lectures on topics such as "Job Prospects for Physiotherapists Overseas," "Ethics of Physiotherapy," and "Residency Programs in Physiotherapy."
Additional topics covered included the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy, Medical Rehabilitation Therapists, and postgraduate opportunities in physiotherapy. The event aimed to raise awareness about low back pain, a global health issue and the theme for this year’s World Physiotherapy Day.
Dr. Yakubu Abubakar, Secretary of the Nigerian Society of Physiotherapy, Kano Chapter, praised the profession, emphasizing its importance in the health sector. He commended MAAUN for supporting the students in organizing the event. Dr. Naziru B. Mukhtar, Head of the Department of Physiotherapy, highlighted the students' initiative in planning the program.
MAAUN President, Prof. (Dr.) Mohammad Israr, and Vice President, Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, both emphasized the significance of physiotherapy in healthcare and called for greater promotion of the profession in Nigeria and globally.
The event, held at the Professor Abubakar Adamu Rasheed Twin Theatre, was attended by university officials and other dignitaries.
