The Maritime Academy of Nigeria, Oron, celebrated the graduation of 157 cadets from various programs, including Maritime Transportation, Maritime Engineering, Nautical Science, and Marine Department on Tuesday.

Cmdr. Duja Emmanuel Effedua (rtd), the Rector of the institution, disclosed that 66 of the graduates received a Higher National Diploma (HND), while 91 earned a National Diploma in Maritime Transportation, Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, and Marine Departments.

During the passing out ceremony for the 2022/2023 cadets, Effedua highlighted the significant achievements of the institution over the last six years of his administration. These include the provision of cutting-edge facilities, a standard curriculum, and disciplined training of cadets to contribute to the nation’s Maritime industries.

Effedua, represented by Registrar Mr. Peter Netson, urged the cadets to be good ambassadors of their alma mater, having been found worthy in character and learning. He emphasized the importance of representing the Academy well in society and benefiting from the discipline and training instilled in them.

The Chief Cadet Captain, Ofem Godwin Uwem, speaking on behalf of the graduating cadets, commended the Rector for the transformation of the Academy, citing the conducive learning environment, standard academic curriculum, and state-of-the-art training equipment.

The Academy organized a lecture series for the graduating set, which included 66 HND graduates and 91 National Diploma graduates. One of the guest lecturers, Rear Adm. Francis Akpan (rtd), spoke on the topic “Emerging Challenges and Opportunities for Maritime Workforce in the Blue Economy.” He emphasized that good governance would enhance the future of the blue economy in the country and that the benefits and opportunities available in the blue economy could be achieved through good policy formulation, adequate funding, and right legislation.
