Medical Center Mishap: Federal Poly Ilaro's Card Requirement Claims Student's Life

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro community is in mourning following the sudden and tragic death of one of its students, Miss Ajayi Abimbola Adejoke, an HND student from the Department of Leisure and Tourism. The circumstances surrounding her demise have sparked controversy and grief among students, faculty, and the wider community.

According to eyewitness accounts, Miss Ajayi Abimbola Adejoke began experiencing severe abdominal pain while attending a practical class. Concerned for her well-being, fellow students rushed her to the school clinic, hoping for immediate medical attention. However, their efforts were met with bureaucratic obstacles.

The attending clinic staff allegedly insisted that Miss Adejoke could not be treated without a valid clinical card. Despite the urgency of the situation, they demanded that the distressed student obtain the necessary paperwork, resulting in a delay of approximately 15 minutes. During this critical time, Miss Adejoke’s condition deteriorated rapidly.

Recognizing the severity of the situation, the clinic staff eventually transferred her to the nearby “Ore Ofe” private hospital. There, she was placed on oxygen support. Tragically, Miss Adejoke passed away while undergoing a medical scan.

“Ilaro Polytechnic lost a student due to poor health facilities and incompetent nurses and doctors,” the student asserted.

In response to the growing outcry and accusations of negligence, the university management released an official press statement. The statement, signed by Sola Abiala, Deputy Registrar of Public Relations, refutes claims of clinic negligence. According to the medical report obtained from the Director of Medical Services, Miss Adejoke was suffering from pregnancy-related complications. The report indicates that she was promptly referred to the private hospital due to the nature of her condition.

Despite the official response, students remain deeply disturbed by the incident. An anonymous student, speaking to Myschoolnews, expressed frustration and concern about the clinic’s handling of emergencies. They recounted a similar experience during their ND days when a coursemate faced delays due to administrative requirements.

“It’s disheartening,” the student said. “People attending to students in the school clinic are too heartless and wicked. Someone in pain, and they insist on a card before attending to her. We should try to avoid being the reason for such tragedies.”

The tragedy of Miss Ajayi Abimbola Adejoke’s passing underscores the need for improved emergency protocols and compassionate care within educational institutions. As the community mourns, questions about the clinic’s responsiveness and policies remain unanswered.

The Federal Polytechnic Ilaro community extends its condolences to Miss Adejoke’s family, friends, and classmates. May her soul rest in peace.
