Professor Abdalla Uba Adamu, a renowned academic from Kano State, has made history as one of the few Nigerians to attain the title of professor in two distinct disciplines—a rare and exceptional feat in the country’s academic landscape.
At Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Adamu was promoted to Professor of Science Education in 1997, becoming the first to achieve this at the institution. Fifteen years later, in 2012, he again made history when he was appointed Professor of Media and Cultural Communication, also the first of its kind at BUK.
On September 10, Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant on Digital Communications to the late President Muhammadu Buhari, praised Adamu’s remarkable achievements via his verified X (formerly Twitter) account.
He described Adamu as “the only person in Northern Nigeria” to hold double professorships in two separate fields. Adamu’s career spans decades of teaching in Nigerian universities and international engagements. He has served as:

Beyond academia, Professor Adamu is celebrated for his contributions to Hausa language, culture, and digital innovation. In the 1990s, he pioneered the digital representation of Hausa special characters (ɓ, Ɓ, ɗ, Ɗ, ƙ, Ƙ), facilitating their use in computing and media.
Despite his scholarly status, Adamu is widely respected for being approachable, humorous, and socially active, particularly on Facebook, where he continues to engage with students, colleagues, and the public.
His rare academic distinction, cultural advocacy, and public intellectualism have made him a leading figure in Northern Nigeria’s intellectual and digital spaces.
