Meet Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba: The New Visionary Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University

Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) in Bauchi has officially welcomed Professor Ibrahim Hassan Garba as its new Vice Chancellor. Professor Garba, a distinguished academic and expert in Biochemistry, brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of leadership to the role.

Prior to his appointment, Professor Garba served in various significant positions at ATBU, including Dean of the Faculty of Science, Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, and Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) for the ATBU chapter. He has also held the position of Head of the Biochemistry Department and chaired the Governing Board of the International Secondary School ATBU.

Professor Garba obtained his Doctorate degree in Biochemistry, specializing in the enzymopathogenesis of host-parasite interactions in falciparum malaria infection. His academic pursuits have led him to receive advanced training in Vaccinology, Genomics, and the Biology of Host-Parasite Interactions at several renowned institutions worldwide, including the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology in New Delhi and the University of Cape Town in South Africa.

In addition to his extensive academic background, Professor Garba is a fellow of the Poverty-Related Diseases and Development (PRD) College and has trained in Bioethics and Biomedical Research Ethics at the African Malaria Network Trust in Dar Es Salaam, Tanzania. He also holds a postgraduate certificate in Research Methodology from the University of Pretoria, South Africa.
