Taraba State University, Jalingo, proudly announces the appointment of Professor Mahmood Hamid Umar as the new Deputy Vice-Chancellor for University Development Services.

A distinguished scholar and administrator, Prof. Umar brings a wealth of experience in rural development to his new role.
Born on October 11, 1972, in Sardauna Local Government Area of Taraba State, Nigeria, Prof. Mahmood's academic journey began at Government Secondary School, Gembu. He obtained his SSCE and later pursued a B.Sc Degree in Agric Econs & Extension at the University of Maiduguri (UNIMAID) from 1992-1998.
Prof. Umar's relentless pursuit of knowledge led him to the Modibbo Adama University of Technology Yola, where he earned M.Sc and Ph.D. degrees in Rural Development from 2002-2012. His commitment to bridging the gap between theory and practice has had a profound impact on academic discourse and rural communities.
Known for his dynamic teaching style, Prof. Mahmood actively collaborates with local communities, government agencies, and international organizations to implement practical solutions addressing the unique needs of rural areas. His research spans sustainable agriculture, community empowerment, and environmental conservation.

Prof. Mahmood's administrative journey includes roles such as Acting Dean, Faculty of Agriculture at Taraba State University, Jalingo, and MD/CEO of MAUHAD GLOBAL LTD. He has also served in various capacities, including NUC Resource verification, Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Dechi Health Trust Fund, and as a Desk Officer for TETFund at TSUJ.
With about 50 scholarly publications to his name, including books, conference papers, and seminars published locally and internationally, Prof. Mahmood has left an indelible mark in the academic world. His commitment to humanity has earned him merit awards and fellowship certificates from esteemed organizations, further solidifying his status as a trailblazer in the field of rural development.
As the newly appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Mahmood H. Umar is set to lead TSUJ towards new heights, integrating his passion for rural development and commitment to academic excellence.
