MOAU Vice-Chancellor Convenes Historic Strategic Meeting with Predecessors to Drive Institutional Growth
The Vice-Chancellor, Reverend Father Moses Orshio Adasu University, Professor Timothy Terseer Alabar, today held a strategic meeting with former Vice-Chancellors of the institution as part of efforts to strengthen leadership continuity and institutional growth.
The meeting which took place in the Vice-Chancellor’s Office was marked by thoughtful reflections on the university’s journey, achievements and future aspirations.
Professor Alabar explained the essence of the gathering was to draw from the wealth of experience and institutional memory of his predecessors. He noted that universities thrive when successive administrations build on established foundations rather than work in isolation. According to him, seeking wise counsel from those who once steered the affairs of the university is critical to advancing academic excellence, infrastructural development and administrative stability. He reaffirmed his resolve to run an open and consultative administration, expressing confidence that with collective wisdom and shared responsibility, the university would continue to rise to greater heights in service to the state and the nation.
The former Vice-Chancellors in their separate presentations commended the Vice-Chancellor for the initiative, describing it as the first of its kind and a demonstration of humility, foresight and inclusive leadership. The former university helmsmen shared insights from their respective tenures and offered suggestions aimed at consolidating past gains while addressing emerging challenges in higher education.
Discussions during the interactive session focused on enhancing student support systems, improving staff welfare, strengthening research output, and fostering stronger partnerships with government and development agencies. The former Vice-Chancellors also emphasized the importance of maintaining the university’s core values, academic standards and reputation within Nigeria’s competitive tertiary education landscape and global visibility.
Those present at the meeting were: the third Vice-Chancellor, Professor Akase Paul Sorkaa (2005-20210); the fourth and first female Vice-Chancellor, Professor Charity Ashimem Angya, OON (2010-2015); the Fifth Vice-Chancellor, Professor Msugh Moses Kembe (2015-2020); the sixth Vice-Chancellor, Professor Tor Joe Iorapuu (2020-2025) sent apologies. The 7th and immediate past Acting Vice-Chancellor, Professor Emmanuel Ayanagarumun Kenen.
