The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has announced plans to commence the renovation of students’ halls of residence immediately after the ongoing examinations, when students proceed on vacation.

The Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Ursula Ngozi Akanwa, has announced plans to commence the renovation of students’ halls of residence immediately after the ongoing examinations, when students proceed on vacation.

She stated that the intervention is part of her administration’s commitment to improving student welfare and creating a more conducive learning environment across the university.

Prof. Akanwa also disclosed that the university has recorded significant improvements in its academic processes, noting that examination results are now released within a few weeks after completion of exams. According to her, this development has eliminated unnecessary delays and ensured that students can proceed with timely course registration without avoidable setbacks.

The Vice-Chancellor made the announcement when the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Raphael Onwuchekwa Iheke, led the newly elected Students’ Union Government (SUG) executives on a courtesy visit to her office.

Addressing the student leaders, Prof. Akanwa urged them to remain responsible, accountable, and disciplined in the discharge of their duties. She warned that leadership is a call to service and not a privilege for personal aggrandizement, stressing that her administration maintains zero tolerance for indiscipline and misconduct.

She further cautioned students against failure to register courses within stipulated deadlines, stating that no grace period would be granted once registration timelines expire.

In his remarks, the Dean of Students’ Affairs, Prof. Iheke, commended the peaceful conduct of the recent SUG election, describing it as highly successful and devoid of complaints. He disclosed that 6,002 students participated in the election, a significant increase compared to the usual turnout of 1,700 to 2,000 voters in previous exercises. He attributed the improved participation to the Vice-Chancellor’s support and leadership.

Speaking on behalf of the newly elected executives, the SUG President, Comrade Omeonu Uchechukwu Goodnews, expressed appreciation to the university management for its commitment to student welfare. He pledged the readiness of the student union to work in synergy with the administration to sustain peace, stability, and progress within the university community.
