MOUAU VC Urges University Community to Trust God for Selection of Successor
Barely a month to the end of his tenure, the 6th Vice-Chancellor of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU), Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, has called on members of the University community to place their trust in God regarding the selection of his successor.
Prof. Iwe made the appeal during the last session of MOUAU PRAYS, the University’s monthly prayer meeting held in the lifetime of his administration on Tuesday, February 3, 2026, at the Senator Anyim Pius Anyim Auditorium.
Addressing staff and students at the end of the session, Prof. Iwe acknowledged the concerns and anxiety surrounding the perceived delay in announcing his successor. He reassured the community that the process was ongoing and expressed confidence that God would guide the Governing Council to make a wise and successful selection.
"I know a lot of persons within and outside the University are concerned about the long-drawn process of appointing my successor. I encourage you to have confidence in God, who is constant and is able to do anything for His people. He does not change," Prof. Iwe stated.
In his homily titled "Cultivating the Right Attitude in the Last Days", Canon Prof. Kelechi Chima Igwe highlighted the approaching conclusion of Prof. Iwe's administration, urging staff and students to adopt an attitude of watchfulness and cautiousness in the days ahead. He commended Prof. Iwe for sustaining the monthly prayer meetings throughout his tenure and affirmed that God would reward his service to the University beyond any human recognition.
Rev. Canon Igwe further emphasized that God’s ways of rewarding faithful service often differ from human systems and encouraged the community to serve both God and humanity with the assurance of divine reward.
Earlier in the programme, staff and students offered prayers for a smooth transition and the peaceful emergence of a God-fearing 7th Vice-Chancellor, expected to lead MOUAU to even greater heights of excellence.
The prayer session was well attended by members of the University Management, teaching and non-teaching staff, students, and pupils of the University Demonstration Primary School.
