MTN Nigeria Foundation has announced its 2024 scholarship program aimed at supporting Nigerian students and empowering future leaders. The annual award amount has been increased from N200,000 to N300,000 for eligible students.
The scholarships are offered in three categories: the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship (MTN STS), the MTN Scholarship for Blind Students (MTN SBS), and the Top 10 UTME Scholarship. MTN made this announcement in a statement published on its official website on Friday.
Established in 2010, the MTN Scholarships Program recognizes high-performing students in Nigerian public tertiary institutions. The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students, initiated in 2012, is now expanding its reach from 60 to 100 recipients. These scholarships will be awarded to blind students in their 200 and 300-levels studying any course, provided they meet the grade requirements.
The Top 10 UTME Scholarship, introduced in 2020, automatically awards scholarships to the top 10 scoring candidates of the UTME. These scholarships are awarded from the students' 100 level through to graduation, regardless of their preferred course of study or institution.
Eligibility for the MTN Science and Technology Scholarship is open to 300-level students studying science and technology-related courses in Nigerian public tertiary institutions. The MTN Scholarship for Blind Students is open to 200 and 300-level blind students studying any course.
STEM students in public universities and colleges must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0/4 or 3.5/5, while those in public polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 3.0 from the OND program and must have secured admission into the HND program. Direct entry-level STEM students must also meet these requirements and have secured admission into the 300 level in a public university.
For blind students, university and college students must have a minimum CGPA of 2.5, while those in public polytechnics must have a minimum CGPA of 2.0 from the OND program and must have secured admission into the HND program.
The MTN scholarship program aims to recognize and reward the academic excellence of Nigerian students, helping to nurture the next generation of leaders.
