In a significant advancement for science education, the MTN Foundation has renovated and equipped seven science laboratories at Government Day Science Secondary School, Gombe, Gombe State. The newly upgraded facilities were commissioned on Tuesday as part of MTN's ongoing corporate social responsibility efforts.

Representing the MTN Foundation at the event, Ali Yaya Ahmed, on behalf of MTN Director Mohammed Kabir Ahmed, revealed that the initiative was part of the foundation's Science and Technology Laboratory Project (MTNF STLP). This project, now in its third phase, aims to enhance science education in public secondary schools across Nigeria. Ahmed noted that in this phase, the foundation executed similar projects in six secondary schools nationwide, including the one in Gombe.

The revamped laboratories at the Gombe science school include two physics, two chemistry, two biology, and one agricultural science lab. The MTN Foundation equipped these labs with modern facilities, installed alternative power solutions, and provided digital learning tools such as laptops, projectors, and screens.

Highlighting the foundation's commitment, Ahmed disclosed that over N2 billion has been invested in renovating 102 science laboratories in 32 secondary schools across 15 states over the past three years.

The state commissioner for Science, Technology, and Innovation, Abdullahi Usman Garkuwa, commended MTN for its contribution, describing the initiative as a boost for science practicals and experiments in the state. He also disclosed that the state government is planning to introduce space and rocket sciences as part of its educational programs.
