NANS and Niger Delta Youth Demand Autopsy Report on Ajayi Crowther University Student's Death

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Front are demanding an autopsy report for Jeffery Chamuke Akron, a Mechanical Engineering student at Ajayi Crowther University who was allegedly beaten to death by his peers over a phone theft accusation.

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Front are demanding an autopsy report on the death of Jeffery Chamuke Akron, a Mechanical Engineering student at Ajayi Crowther University. Akron, an Itsekiri prince from Warri, Delta State, was allegedly beaten to death by his colleagues over a phone theft accusation.

Suspicions have arisen that the real perpetrators may not have been apprehended, prompting NANS and the Niger Delta Youth Leaders to seek further investigation. On Wednesday, 25 suspected students, aged 18-34, were arraigned before the Chief Magistrate Court in Oyo State and remanded in custody until July 8 pending trial.

NANS Universal President, Comrade Lucky Emonefe, and President of the Niger Delta Youth Leaders Front, Honourable Chukwutem Nwogor, visited Ajayi Crowther University to protest and demand a thorough autopsy to reveal the true culprits. They expressed doubts about the identity of the suspects arraigned and accused some security agents and the school management of shielding the real murderers.

Honourable Chukwutem Nwogor criticized the living conditions in the hostel, Shepherd Inn, where Akron was tortured from 6 PM on Friday until about 10 AM on Saturday. He condemned the Minister of Education, Tahir Mamman, and the National University Commission (NUC) for their indifference and failure to ensure proper facilities and student safety. Nwogor called for immediate government intervention and better regulation of university accommodations.

In a bid for justice, Itsekiri elders, led by Prince Yemi Emiko, also visited the university and the morgue where Akron's body is kept. They met with the school management and inspected the hostel, underscoring the need for accountability and transparency in the investigation.
