On the 8th of November, 2023, the esteemed members of Course 32 from the National Defence College (NDC), Abuja, embarked on a noteworthy study tour to Alex Ekwueme Federal University in Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State. The focal point of this enlightening expedition was the theme, "Strengthening National Unity for Security and National Development in Nigeria."

This visit not only underscored the commitment of these military scholars to the advancement of strategic thinking and national security but also served as a testament to their dedication to exploring avenues for fostering unity and development within the intricate fabric of Nigeria. In a proactive move aimed at fostering national unity, a delegation from Course 32 of the prestigious National Defence College (NDC) in Abuja embarked on a significant study tour to Alex Ekwueme Federal University Ndufu-Alike, Ebonyi State.

Led by Brig. Gen. J.A. Ifeanyi, the team leader, the delegation highlighted the pivotal role of NDC, established in 1992 as Nigeria's premier military training institution. The primary objective of the college is to prepare senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria, foreign military personnel, and senior civilians from government ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) for leadership and strategic development.

Brig. Gen. Ifeanyi underscored NDC's reputation as a Center of Excellence for peace support operations, integrated as the ECOWAS Centre for peace support operations. He emphasized the college's collaborative efforts with universities for degree awards and the acceptance of sabbatical fellows from various academic institutions.

The study tour aimed to familiarize the 18 distinguished participants, including officers from the Nigerian Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Defence Intelligence Agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, and the National Defence College, with the socio-economic and political landscape of Ebonyi State. This initiative aligns with the tour's overarching theme of promoting national integration.

Upon welcoming the NDC Course 32 participants, Prof. Sunday Elom, the Vice-Chancellor of Alex Ekwueme Federal University, shared insights into the institution's sustained efforts toward national integration through inclusive academic and administrative practices. He emphasized the university's commitment to providing equal opportunities to individuals from all parts of the country and beyond, irrespective of tribe or religion.

The diverse delegation, which also included international participants from Brazil, Nepal, Zimbabwe, and Morocco, explored avenues for collaboration and knowledge exchange, further enhancing the spirit of unity and cooperation between the military and academic institutions.
