FULOKOJA Visits CUSTECH Osara to Explore Innovative Approaches to Campus Safety

The Federal University Lokoja (FUL) has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening campus security and fostering inter-institutional collaboration following a courtesy visit to the management of the Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTECH), Osara.  

The FUL Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gbenga Solomon Ibileye, was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Professor Jacqueline Badaki, who led the delegation to CUSTECH.  

Speaking during the visit, Professor Badaki expressed appreciation to the management of CUSTECH for receiving the delegation. She said FUL values opportunities for collaboration and knowledge sharing, particularly in areas affecting the safety and wellbeing of students, staff, and university communities.  

She noted that the rapid growth in student population across universities has created new administrative and security challenges requiring innovative and proactive responses. Professor Badaki also highlighted the unique security considerations of FUL’s location and stressed the importance of learning from institutions with effective security frameworks.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor of CUSTECH, Osara, Engr. Professor Abdulrahman Asipita Salawu, commended FUL’s leadership for prioritising engagement on issues of mutual interest. He assured the delegation of his support for initiatives that promote campus safety and stability, and disclosed plans to visit FUL in the near future to further strengthen relations between both institutions.  

Engr. Salawu emphasised the need for strong internal security systems, stating that effective security begins within the institution.  

“The first strategy is to profile your own security system. Most security challenges do not originate from outside without some level of internal involvement. Institutions must understand their environment and build strong internal structures,” he said.

The CUSTECH Vice-Chancellor also stressed the importance of valuing and supporting campus security personnel, adding that they play a critical role in safeguarding lives and property.  

He further highlighted the role of intelligence gathering and community participation in maintaining security, noting that students and staff are vital stakeholders in the university’s security architecture.
