The National Library of Nigeria has urged stakeholders to bolster efforts in promoting a reading culture to drive national development. This call was made by Chinwe Anunobi, Chief Executive of the National Library, during the formal presentation of the 2025 Abuja Book City Logo in Abuja.

The 2025 Abuja Book City initiative, themed "Reading, a Unifying Factor," was organized by the Network of Book Clubs and Reading Culture Promoters (NBRP) in partnership with various literary and copyright organizations. Anunobi highlighted the selection of Abuja as the Book City for 2025 as a significant step in enhancing literacy and reinforcing Abuja’s role as a key center for reading promotion.

Loye Olowookere, coordinator of the Abuja Chapter of NBRP, emphasized the importance of collaboration among stakeholders to achieve the goal of increasing reading habits across Nigeria. He outlined plans for the establishment of book clubs in all six area councils of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as part of the 774 book clubs project.

Pastor Dominic Omokaro, President of the Nigerian Library Association, commended NBRP for its successful bid and expressed optimism that the initiative would invigorate local and national interest in reading.

The event marks the beginning of activities for the 2025 Book City Project, set to culminate in a major reading promotion event on April 23, 2025.
